Stephanie Rivers is a contemporary artist based in Beacon, NY. Her work depicts natural environments particularly scenes inspired by her surroundings in the Hudson Valley.
The Hudson River and surrounding wildlife are often featured in her work. Her process involves bringing the experience of being in nature back to her studio through memory and sketches. Reinterpreting specific locations back in the studio leads to formal discoveries in mark making and color.
Her paintings operate on the boundary of abstraction and reality, often using atmospheric washes and gestural brushwork. Rivers technique emphasizes the texture of the linen and the physical application of paint, often leaving the linen exposed in areas.
